Warpaint's beguiling sound is underpinned by the chemistry between childhood friends Emily Kokal and fellow guitarist Theresa Wyman. Together with bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg and powerhouse drummer Stella Mozgawa, the band’s live chemistry is utterly captivating.
When they released their EP Exquisite Corpse eight years ago, the music industry was knocked for six, tripped up by four razor sharp young women with enviable prowess but who didn’t serve up predictable quick-fix hooks. Over the course of three albums and with headline festival slots under their belt, they’ve sealed a reputation for off-kilter, spaced-out harmonics, spellbinding rhythmic shifts, low-slung basslines and utterly euphoric gigs.
Listening to a track like Disco//Very it’s easy to picture thousands of people at Somerset House joyfully singling along to, “I’ve got a friend with a melody that will kill. She’ll eat you ALIVE!”
