Photo London 2025 Talks | Wed 14 May

The 2025 Talks Programme features a strong line-up of speakers and is curated by Thames & Hudson, with contributions from Photo London partners Nikon and FT Weekend.

The talks provide listeners with unique insights from some of the world’s most vital photographic voices, so expect to hear lively, dynamic debates and in-depth discussions to broaden and deepen your understanding of photography.

Talks tickets do not include admission to the Fair. You must purchase a Day Pass ticket for the same day as the talk is taking place. Talks are in The Screening Room (South Wing via Embankment) and each event has a limited capacity, so we advise arriving five minutes before the scheduled start time to avoid disappointment. Please note that latecomers may only be admitted at the discretion of Visitor Experience staff in a suitable break.

Schedule

14.00 - 15.00 | LONDON LIVES: A ROOST FOR EVERY BIRD
Benjamin Disraeli had one of his characters, Felix Drolin, say of London that it was ‘a roost for every bird’. In a panel discussion linked to the London Lives show in the Embankment Galleries for the duration of PhotoLondon, three very different London photographers will talk about the city as an inspiration and a subject for photography, their various practices, and some of what they love about being Londoners.
Speakers: Julia Fullerton-Batten, Tom Hunter, Nick Turpin. Moderator: Francis Hodgson

15.30 - 16.30 | Discovery Presents: BEE GATS: PHOTOGRAPHY SAVED MY LIFE
Join us for an artist talk between American photo-based artist, Bee Gats and Gem Fletcher. Gats reveals how photography transformed his life after a troubled early life growing up in care, and how he has used the camera to revere the unseen sides and everyday life in underground communities in the United States. Gats presents his work in Europe for the first time at Photo London with Mortal Machine Gallery, New Orleans.

17.00 - 18.00 | Thames & Hudson presents: THE IAN PARRY PHOTOGRAPHY GRANT
The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant (IPPG) has supported young and emerging photojournalists for over three decades. The Guardian’s Head of Photography Fiona Shields and photojournalist and poet Anastasia Taylor-Lind join IPPG 2024 recipients Iva Sidash and Ximena Borrazas to discuss the power of visual storytelling, the challenges facing photojournalists today, and the experiences of women photographers living and working in Ukraine.
