Jake Garfield’s woodcuts are held in major collections including the Fitzwilliam Museum, V&A and British Museum. Join as he speaks with and Elenor Ling, senior curator of prints and drawings at the Fitzwilliam Museum, to reflect on the connections between Garfield's prints and a selection of historical works and pop-cultural figures.

16.00 | THE GREAT WAR: Britain’s Efforts and Ideals
Speaker: Tom Edwards and Claire Brenard 
Hear Tom Edwards (Managing Director, Abbott and Holder Ltd) and Claire Brenard (Curator, Art, IWM) discuss this fascinating set of WWI prints and the unique collaboration between Imperial War Museums and Abbott and Holder. Commissioned in 1917 from eighteen artists the suite of prints was one of the largest and most ambitious British print projects of the early twentieth century; a feat of technical skill and artistic vision, as well as war-time logistics and propaganda.

United by an admiration for John Bergers’s seminal 1972 Ways of Seeing, their fascinating and wide-ranging discussion will examine the fusion of painting and prints in Tom’s work and uncover the secrets of life in the fast lane as an art dealer.

12.00 | David Barker: Developments in Chinese Colour Printing
Speaker: David Barker
This talk will offer an outline to the origins of Chinese relief printmaking in the second century BCE, the developments of later dynasties, to introducing the techniques, tools and materials that led to the emergence of multi-colour printing from woodblocks in the early seventeenth century CE.

Artist Stanley Donwood in conversation with Ashmolean curator Natasha Podro ahead of the major Radiohead retrospective at the Ashmolean from August 2025.

Donwood will discuss his unique collaborations with Yorke, which explore the complex relationship between visual art and music.
