IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CTM FESTIVAL
Since 2020, Somerset House Studios has partnered with Goethe-Institut London on an international residency programme to support a German or Germany-based female or non-binary artist working at the intersection of music, art and technology. Since 2024, that partnership has also included CTM, Berlin’s festival for adventurous music and art.
The residency supports the development of new work commissioned in collaboration with Goethe-Institut London and CTM Festival, to be presented at both Somerset House Studios, London and CTM Festival, Berlin.
Past residency recipients are Juliana Huxtable, Christine Sun Kim and Dis Fig, with resulting works presented as part of programmes including Grounding Practice, Hyper Functional, Ultra Healthy, and Assembly, Somerset House Studios’ experimental sound, music and performance series.
This January, composer, sound artist, and musician Ellen Arkbro will join the community at Somerset House Studios for a three-month residency as the 2025 residency recipient.
The residency includes a dedicated studio space at Somerset House and accommodation at Goethe-Institut London. Artists receive a fee, a production budget, and producer support to develop a new work during their stay, alongside curatorial guidance to shape the project. They also have access to a range of in-house facilities across both Somerset House and Goethe-Institut, including a recording studio, rehearsal space, meeting rooms, project spaces, workshops, a library, and an auditorium. Additionally, residents can engage with in-house programmes such as artist development opportunities, public events, and social gatherings.
