Movies have long relied on music to bring them to life. However, how are musicians inspired or influenced by movies? Can traces of films, half-remembered or directly recalled, filter into songs, shape an album or help create a concept? As Summer Screen draws to a musical close with the Herbie Hancock-scored Blow-Up and the rap-fuelled comedy-drama Patti Cake$, we take a look at the relationship between cinema and music from the perspective of artists who draw on the world of film for inspiration.
