The fifth event of the series will be presented by Mandy Parnell, audio mastering engineer, founder and senior mastering engineer at Black Saloon Studios in London.
Mandy became interested in recorded music at the age of 5, listening to records on a portable Dansette player - the iPod of the time. Her 30 years of experience as world renowned mastering engineer have allowed her to discover and develop her philosophies in analogue and digital audio, while working with an amazing array of artists including Bjork, The XX, Sigur Ros and Brian Eno. She has mastered countless records that have achieved silver, gold, platinum and Grammy status around the world, as well as winning for the third time this year the prestigious MPG Mastering Engineer of the Year award.
More recently, Mandy has been working with Annie Lennox, mastered Aphex Twin's first release in 13 years 'Syro', Philip Selway, Ghostpoet and Björk's critically acclaimed Vulnicura. She has been featured on the BBC, Resolution magazine, Sound On Sound and Audio Musica & Technologia. As a firm believer in educating the next generation of producers and engineers, she frequently lectures on mastering and the music industry at universities, colleges and organizations.
About Sound Salon
Artists have been working with the internet for decades but until recently, archives and critical writing have focused on visual cultures. This series aims to fuel critical discussion, new vocabulary and analysis in sound and music, supporting communities and practitioners in these fields to understand how the internet - and new technology more broadly - is shaping the field.
Together with artist Holly Herndon, Jennifer launched the project Post-Internet Sound in 2015. A crowdsourced database of sound and music works, the site is open access and welcomes both academic and non-academic contributions, be it in the form of writing or a source of sound. Anyone can contribute via Google docs.
