Simon Terrill

Simon Terrill's work is a photographic and performance based engagement with groups, communities, crowds - and the spaces they occupy. As well as sculpture, video, drawing and installation work, his practice often takes the form of large-scale stage-managed events. His ongoing Crowd Theory project is centered around an idea of a contrasting and oscillating space between the personal and the public, the individual and the collective and the impact of these fluid definitions on architecture, portraiture and the photograph. Simon's recent works include 'South of the River: Crowd Theory' at the National Portrait Gallery, and 'The Brutalist Playground', a collaboration with Assemble commissioned by RIBA.

Whilst in residence, Simon will be developing a new cycle of works under the working title Nouns of Assembly, an open-ended exploration based in the forms and practices of congregation.
