Photo London 2025 Talks | Sat 17 May

The 2025 Talks Programme features a strong line-up of speakers and is curated by Thames & Hudson, with contributions from Photo London partners Nikon and FT Weekend.

The talks provide listeners with unique insights from some of the world’s most vital photographic voices, so expect to hear lively, dynamic debates and in-depth discussions to broaden and deepen your understanding of photography.

Talks tickets do not include admission to the Fair. You must purchase a Day Pass or Weekend ticket for the same day as the talk is taking place. Talks are in The Screening Room (South Wing via Embankment) and each event has a limited capacity, so we advise arriving five minutes before the scheduled start time to avoid disappointment. Please note that latecomers may only be admitted at the discretion of Visitor Experience staff in a suitable break.

Schedule

12.30 - 13.30 | Thames & Hudson presents: ILUMINATING FASHION: COLOUR AND CLOTHES IN AUTOCHROMES 1907-1930
Our discussion will explore and evaluate the contribution of the autochrome to the representation of fashion in this period: whether it challenges and alters stereotypical preconceptions of the colour of dress, its impact on fashion photography, and its place in the so-called ‘chromatic modernity’ of the early twentieth century.

14.00 - 15.00 | NIKON TALK: HEATHER AGYEPONG IN CONVERSATION WITH NIKON: ON REST & RESISTANCE
Agyepong talks about her latest commission for FT Weekend Magazine: My London. She discusses her commission, St. Katharine, and her current residency at St. John's College, Oxford University. The talk will centre around rediscovering the significance of rest, restoration and stillness in art creation.

15.30 - 16.30 | NIKON TALK: THE STORY BEHIND 'END TIMES'
End Times is a project that explores global environmental collapse and how we consume information about it, by reconsidering entrenched narratives and understanding. The images are journalistic in their attempt to present truth rather than agenda and artistic in the way they consider subjects and storytelling: visually, rather than editorially. The project is ongoing.

17.15 - 18.15 | Panel Talk: FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY & NOSTALGIA
Three Discovery artists, Rosie Emerson (Bright Gallery) Michelle Marshall and Rachel Fleminger Hudson (Sarabande Foundation) discuss their enthralling, wistful works, leading aesthetic shifts as part of a new generation in fashion photography in the UK, and how they are each inspired by and informed by their research into materials, costumes and the past. The discussion is moderated by writer Rosalind Jana.
