Since its inception, 1-54 has established itself as a leading voice in the global discussion on contemporary African art, and has been at the forefront of the African art market with annual editions across three continents.
This year's London edition will host over 60 international exhibitors, representing 23 countries, with 21 newcomer galleries making their 1-54 London edition debuts. Newcomers to the fair include ADA contemporary art gallery (Accra, Ghana), Amasaka Gallery (Masaka, Uganda), Art Pantheon Gallery (Lagos, Nigeria), Cynthia Corbett Gallery (London), Galerie REVEL (Bordeaux, France), Galerie Voss (Düsseldorf, Germany), House of Beau (Rabat, Morocco), Le LAB (Cairo, Egypt), Pearl Lam Galleries (Hong Kong, China), Post Gallery (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia), The Melrose Gallery (Johannesburg, South Africa), among others.
Both new and returning exhibitors will showcase the works of more than 160 artists spanning an array of mediums; from painting, photography and sculpture, to mixed media, performance and installation. The fair will feature renowned artists such as Esther Mahlangu, Tuli Mekondjo and Mous Lamrabat, alongside young and emerging talents including Freya Bramble-Carter, Layo Bright and Kofi Perry.
This year, Brazil will see a strong representative presence with the participation of galleries such as Galeria Karla Osario, VERVE and Portas Vilaseca Galeria. Several Brazilian artists will also be showcasing their works, including Alexis Peskine, Ana Beatriz Almeida, Matheus Marques Abu, Henrique Oliveira, Nadia Taquary, Diambe da Silva, Caio Marcolini and Zéh Palito.
The Fair will also be accompanied by specially curated events, along with an extensive VIP and Public Programme.
