Zheng Bo in Conversation with Sarah Shin

Zheng Bo is an eco-queer artist of Bai heritage. Through drawing, dance and film, they cultivate kinship with plants. Guided by Daoist wisdom, they work with both human and non-human participants to grow weedy gardens, make biophilia films, and facilitate eco-socialist gatherings. They have collaborated with ferns in Taiwan, moss in Scandinavia, beech trees in Germany, and an umbrella thorn acacia in the Arabian Desert. For the artist, art does not arise from human creativity, but more-than-human intimacy. 
 
Zheng’s ecological practice contributes to an emergent social movement with an earth-centric perspective. In recent years, they have undertaken several commissions, inviting the public to engage with these ideas, and their works have been exhibited and collected by leading international museums and galleries. Zheng Bo is also Associate Professor at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
