Tom will guide you through a series of techniques allowing you to build, model, stitch and finish a small chair maquette like the one he developed for the Eternally Yours exhibition.
During this workshop, you will explore simple shapes and volumes seen in the regrowth of trees through spontaneous collaging exercises, before using woodworking and textile techniques to hand-build a maquette. Tom will then share how to stuff the piece, to emphasise the imperfections and strengthen the object.
Materials and tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring remnant fabrics to use. This workshop is suitable for beginners and also those who wish to develop their existing skills. Tickets cost £15.
All ticket sales will be donated to the Somerset House Young Talent Fund. This provides bursaries and financial relief to artists, as well as opportunities for under-represented people aged 18-25 seeking to get into the creative sector.
