Launching in 2021 Somerset House’s Young Producers collective presents its inaugural co-production project, Decentralise, a new digital platform exploring the re-interpretation of Black history, heritage and culture at Somerset House, in collaboration with innovative design studio and Somerset House Studios residents COMUZI and project partners Pinterest.
The Young Producers collective, which launched in October 2020 as part of Somerset House’s Engagement and Skills programme and offers development and support to young creatives who are underrepresented in the cultural sector, comprised of six London-based emerging creatives aged 18-30 who have worked closely with COMUZI to co-create and co-produce a digital resource which seeks to re-centre Black people in the cultural history at Somerset House.
Decentralise forms part of Somerset House’s recent Anti-racism Pledge, which commits to updating the historical information currently understood on Somerset House and its role in Britain’s colonial past and making these resources widely available.
