Experimenting with the production and editing tools to hand, six artists live stream a performance from home, responding to the provocation I Should Be Doing Something Else Right Now. A series of quick-fire commissions from Studios artists exploring work, play and process.
In the latest iteration of her Hailing Frequencies Open project, Dyer's live stream event will reflect possibilities of Black futurity in the form of a broadcast from the future, transmitted via the Andromeda Galaxy.
Hailing Frequencies Open: (Kairos) Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple is a parafiction in the form of a group chat between the evolved descendants of HeLa cells, living in the Andromeda Galaxy, as they attempt to contact Earth. The title references one of the Greek words for time, in this case indicating the most opportune moment for action. The text intersects speculative fiction, Space science, Greek mythology and contemporary figures including Octavia Butler, Michelle Obama, Nyota Uhura and Ursula LeGuin.
Also broadcast during this evenings programming are Hailing Frequencies Open: Dr Chanda Prescod-Weinstein (2020) and Hailing Frequencies Open: Dr Hadiyah- Nicole Greene (2017/20), both part of an ongoing series of works featuring leading scientists exploring the connections between science, speculation and Black futurities.
