Channel is Somerset House’s new curated online space for art, ideas and the artistic process.
Somerset House seeks to be a cultural leader on environmental sustainability and takes a holistic approach across our estate management, resident community and cultural programme. We were one of the first cultural organisations to sign “Culture Declares Emergency”.
In the spirit of World Earth Day, we wanted to share with you some ways to ensure that your event at Somerset House is as sustainable as it can be. To help with this, we have put together some key tips of things to consider that either help to reduce, reuse or recycle.
- Reduce: Excellent Transport Links
Our central location should encourage the use of public transport amongst your guests. We have numerous bus links via the Strand as well as rail and tube stations.
- Reuse: Go Digital
If possible please think about using electronic options rather than paper copies for all resources involved in your event, these can then easily be amended and reused for future events.
- Reduce: Offstting your Event
You can offset your event by choosing to fund a cause that compensates for the emissions created. Please get in touch if you would like further advice or suggestions.
- Reuse: Water Stations Easily Accessible
We have numerous water filling stations across site so please encourage your guests to bring their reusable bottles to the event.
- Reuse: Deliveries
Whether one of our accredited suppliers will be making deliveries for your event, or you are using a courier service for deliveries, we ask that you start a conversation with these providers to ensure they are making one trip rather than several, wherever possible.
