Political Architectures: the creative of radical new spaces
Through their own unique ways, the work of these artists goes between the virtual and the physical realm, creating radical spaces of human connectivity through digital technologies.

Moderator: Anne Duffau (A---Z)
A---Z is a nomadic platform reflecting on current socio-political issues: in the gaze on the ‘other’ and its representation, its definition for new possibilities: future bodies, gender identities, empowerment in deconstructing (hi)stories & exploring technology, its opacity / How can we imagine an alternative & revolutionary world through Sci-Fi narratives?

Anne has collaborated in various projects with ArtLicks, CGP Gallery, Mimosa House, the Institute for Mathematical Sciences Project, V22, Danielle Arnaud, Please Stand By, or-bits.com, jury member at PAF Olomouc & Tenderflix. She is co-curating Dark Water Series with Tai Shani & Décalé events with Chooc Ly Tan. Anne is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the RCA Moving Image Pathway & a board member at Matt's Gallery. www.abc-z.org

Speakers:
Eva Papamargariti
Eva Papamargariti grew up in Greece where she graduated from the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly with a Diploma in Architecture (2012). She holds a Master Degree on Visual Communication Design from Royal College of Art, London (2016). Her practice focuses on time-based media but also printed material and sculptural installations that explore the relationship between digital space and material reality. 

Hyphen Labs
Hyphen-Labs is an award winning, international team of women using technology, art, science, and futurism to test the boundaries of physical and digital space. They use large scale installations and immersive experiences to explore the nature of reality, place, environmental impact, and political activation using emerging technology platforms.

Sabrina Ratte
Sabrina Ratté is a Canadian artist whose practice includes video, animation, installations, sculptures, audio-visual performances, prints and virtual reality. Her work focuses on the creation of architectures, abstract compositions and surreal landscapes, straddling the fine line between the virtual and the physical realm.

Libby Heaney (presentation)
Libby Heaney is an artist, researcher and lecturer with a background in quantum physics. Her artwork explores the socio-political-ethical impacts of emerging technologies and draws on literature, language and science. While she works with a variety of media, her work is typically interactive and playful and is both critical and suggestive of positive futures. Drawing from her experience working in quantum science, she uses approaches such as blurring, combining, remixing and weaving to 'diffract' standard conceptions of ’truth’ into strange new forms to question orthodoxies and to explore alternatives.

Presentations followed by a chaired discussion on feminist / gendered approaches to digital art.

Moderator: Marie Thompson
Marie Thompson is a Lecturer in Media, Sound and Culture at Lincoln School of Film and Media, University of Lincoln, UK. She is the co-editor of Sound, Music, Affect: Theorizing Sonic Experience (Bloomsbury, 2013). Her current work includes Sonic Cyberfeminisms, an on-going collaborative project with Annie Goh that critically interrogates the relationship between gender, technology and sound. She is also developing research around the relationship between sonic and social reproduction.

Isaac Kariuki
Isaac Kariuki is a visual artist and writer living between Nairobi and London.  His work centres on surveillance and internet culture as it relates to the global south and has been exhibited at Tate Modern, Kadist Paris and the Kampala Art Biennale.

RKSS
rkss, or Robin Buckley, is a London based producer, performer and DJ. Their work explores the politics and aesthetics of club culture, technology and queerness. Their latest album DJ Tools, released on Lee Gamble’s UIQ, is based on live performances where they recontextualise EDM sample packs into fragmented computer music and was selected by Pitchfork Magazine as one of their top ten experimental albums of the year for in 2018.

Zaiba Jabbar
Zaiba Jabbar is a moving image artist, award-winning director, independent curator and founder of Hervisions. Hervisions is a multidisciplinary platform that supports and promotes non-binary, POC, LGBTQI+ and female identifying artists. Through Hervisions, Jabbar facilitates innovative online and offline experiences, collaborating with partners to research and produce commissions, exhibitions and events at the intersection of art, technology and culture.

SIREN
The Shape of Sound is a video series of 10-15 minute live performances, profiling the talent of six UK-based womxn and non-binary artists. Filmed within Somerset House as part of SIREN collective’s Associate Artist residency at Somerset House Studios, each performance uniquely presents the work of each artist in a new context and shows the ways in which their electronic musical practice interacts with their surroundings.

Tabita Rezaire
Tabita Rezaire’s work envisions network sciences as restorative technologies which nourish organic, electronic and spiritual visions of connection and emancipation. Navigating digital, corporeal and ancestral memory as sites of struggles, she digs into scientific imaginaries to tackle the pervasive matrix of coloniality and the protocols of energetic misalignments that affect the songs of our body-mind-spirits.

Inside A, VR installation
Analucía Roeder
An immersive site specific VR experience, Inside A submerges users into different states of mind to witness how they cohabit in the authors head. Erratic movements and looped actions representing our inability of quietness, peace of mind and silence.

Migration Data, audio piece
Ale Hop
Inspired by the radio genre, Migration Data is a narrative radio work built on the basis of testimonies of immigrants who crossed the European borders seeking asylum, cut from newspapers from the past two years. It was released in The Wire Magazine Below The Radar 28 and is an extended version of a piece of Ale Hop’s album Bodiless (Buh Records, 2018).

RAMZi (DJ set)
A world in itself set in the wildness of a jungle, bringing RAMZi into an idyll playground where birds, bébites and animals have a voice. All together they are the guardians of a paradise being lost, all together they are fighting against the invasion of the zombies into the motherland. Neither boy nor girl, RAMZi appears as this protecting guardian-kid of a psychic landscape. It lives in the jungle as Moogli, and hides from errant zombies most of the time under the shape of a Pygmy Tarsier. RAMZi is this dual entity polarized into opposites (masculine/feminine ethos/pathos, free/captive, etc.).

Edna King (live) with visuals from Prifma
Robot-human vocals float above ambient synth textures, dissonant harmonies and filtered glitches punctuating rhythms driven into overdrive -- yet for all its electronic dynamism, Edna King's music flows with a markedly human emotional undercurrent. A classically trained pianist, King played keyboards and sang in Toronto synth-pop bands for several years before embarking on solo electronic production. She released her haunting debut EP, Pressurize, in 2016, which draws together elements of spoken word, harmonic ethereal vocals and industrial noise and bass.

Prifma is a live visuals and installations project formed by Mercedes Invernizzi and Laura Fuchs. Their visual performances consist of a live luminic staging that is registered by a live camera and intervened digitally. Light is their overarching theme --and their main artistic element--, which allows them to produce a dialogue between digital and analog art.

Machine Woman (DJ set) with visuals from Milena Pafundi
Anastasia Vtorova (Machine Woman) records gritty experimental techno, lacing minimal rhythms with distortion and unexpected turns. Her music is reflective of the ecstasy of nightlife as well as the loneliness of spending nights in solitude. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, she attended university in London and played in various punk and noise groups. Her solo electronic music has maintained a rebellious, convention-defying spirit, and she has released records with Peder Mannerfelt’s eponymous label; Where to Now? and Technicolour.

Milena Pafundi is an Argentinian transdisciplinary artist. As a visual feminist artivist Milena develops contents and techniques for audiovisual shows, performance, theatre and dance plays. She founded Articiclo Collective and teaches visual arts with gender perspective. As an audiovisual director, she is creative in digital contents both artistic and journalistic focused on Human Rights and Gender Violence.
