Considered one of London’s central performers and curators of new music, Lucy Railton’s recent solo work 'Paradise 94' released on Modern Love this year marks a new chapter in her long-term engagement with contemporary music and a historic relationship with classical instrumentalism and electroacoustic composition.
At Somerset House Studios her attention focuses on psychogeographical practices, composing a sonic work of text and recordings gathered from walks with artist and Savage Messiah author, Laura Grace Ford. In residence, she develops a commission by Somerset House for ASSEMBLY, responding to the complex and palimpsestic character of Thames-side Wapping, treating river systems as both a literal and metaphorical manifestation of connectivity, constructing a sound world of undercurrents that relate people, places and time.
