From Monday 3 September 18.30, then fortnightly Mondays, Somerset House Studios resident and Savage Messiah author Laura Grace Ford and writer Dan Taylor host a Mark Fisher Reading Group at Somerset House Studios.
Taking Mark Fisher's unfinished book Acid Communism as a central text, readers will collectively explore the ideas he was working through by reading it alongside the work of Herbert Marcuse, Spinoza, Fred Moten, Frederic Jameson, Michael Perelman, Jodi Dean, Jam City and others. Laura and Dan will start by circulating a short text Mark wrote in 2016 on rave culture called Baroque Sunbursts, which encapsulates many of the ideas he was attempting to formulate in his Acid Communism project as well as reminding us what a dazzling and brilliant writer he was.
To register your interest, please email studios@somersethouse.org.uk with the subject heading ‘Mark’ by Friday 10 August briefly outlining your interest in joining. Though the group will be small, we aim to be able to accommodate as many interested as possible. Participants should be available to attend on fortnightly Mondays with regularity.
