We had hoped to launch our second iteration of the Creative Careers Academy programme, 'Creative Industry Placements' in 2020, but due to the global pandemic and seeing the need for young people to not just work remotely, we paused the delivery.
Utilising the Government Kickstart scheme, working closely with Westminster City Council and our creative community, we designed Creative Industry Placements that would support and benefit young people from underrepresented backgrounds. This responds even more to the needs of young people and the sector today.
Upgrade Yourself: Kickstart opportunities are six-month placements, with the aim to enable young people to get inside how a creative business is run, from operations to programming while being supported with an in-depth wrap round training and development programme. All placements work across Somerset House and are hosted by organisations within our resident creative community.
We have nine Kickstart placements at Somerset House. All are full time roles, paying London Living Wage, with guaranteed space and time to take part in the wrap round training and development programme, including a mentor, space for self-reflection and the opportunity to be part of an in-depth evaluation.
